Book 1: Groups of two or three students, 45-60 minutes

  • In Units 1-9, students play short pieces, designed to help students differentiate between Duple and Triple meter. 

  • Students learn different piano techniques which help to assist them in proper hand position at the piano. 

  • Students experience ensemble pieces in different tonalities (Major, Minor, Dorian, Mixolydian and Lydian) 

  • Students are introduced to major cadences and scales. 

  • Students learn about major tonic and dominant chords. 

  • Students are beginning to learn about minor tonality. 

  • Students begin to put hands together at the piano with simplified left hand accompaniments. 

  • Supplemental Material is at the teacher’s discretion, but can include books such as Music Moves for Two and Little Gems.

How often is my child expected to practice each week? Book 1 continues to give students more short pieces that build foundational music skills and inspires creativity and we begin to assign more technical piano skills and supplemental repertoire. We require students to practice daily for 5-10 minutes.
